Senior moving and downsizing
Moving a parent out of the house they raised a family in is not the same job as moving a two-bedroom apartment, and it should not be run the same way. We have been doing these moves across the East Valley since 2004, at the pace the day actually needs.
Why these moves are different
A downsizing move is mostly decisions. What comes to the new place, what goes to family, what is donated, what nobody has decided about yet. That happens in the middle of the move, not before it, and a crew that stands around sighing makes it worse.
The other difference is who is in the room. Often it is an adult child coordinating from another state, a parent who is not certain about the move, and a move-in window set by a community. We are used to all three and we will talk to whoever needs to be talked to.
Moving into a retirement or assisted living community
Communities have rules, and they are stricter than a normal apartment: a set move-in day, a time window, a service elevator to reserve, a certificate of insurance on file before anyone unloads. Some want the truck gone by a particular hour.
Give us the community name when you ask for a quote and we will deal with that in advance. Being licensed and insured is what lets us do it; it is also why a community will sometimes turn away help hired off an app.
Fitting a house into a smaller place
The measuring problem is real. A dining set that anchored a house does not fit a one-bedroom, and finding that out on moving day is the worst time to find it out. Where we can, we would rather talk it through when we quote the job.
We disassemble and reassemble furniture as part of the move, so a bed frame or a table that needs to come apart to get through a doorway is normal, not an extra ordeal.
What we handle
Full or partial packing with proper materials, furniture padded and wrapped before it moves, disassembly and reassembly, loading and unloading, and boxes placed in the room they belong in rather than stacked by the door.
If family has already packed, we are happy to just bring the crew and the truck. If nobody has touched a box, we can do all of it.

Common questions
Senior moving and downsizing, answered.
Straight answers on quotes, coverage, packing, and timing. Still have a question? Call 480-206-2757 and we will help.
Can you work with our timeline if the move takes a few days to decide?
Yes. Downsizing moves often involve sorting that is not finished when we arrive. Tell us what you are expecting when you call and we will schedule realistically rather than booking you into an hour that was never going to work.
Can you coordinate with me if I live out of state?
Yes, and we do it regularly. We can arrange the quote and the schedule by phone and email with the family member handling the move, and keep you updated on the day. Call 480-206-2757 and tell us who the main contact is.
Do you meet retirement community move-in requirements?
Yes. Most communities want a certificate of insurance on file and a reserved elevator or move-in window. Garcia Movers is licensed and insured, so give us the community name with your quote request and we will handle the paperwork before moving day.
Will you reassemble the furniture at the new place?
Yes. Disassembly and reassembly are part of the move, not an add-on we spring on you. Beds, tables and anything that has to come apart to clear a doorway go back together where you want them.
Can you take away what is not coming with us?
Tell us what you have in mind when you call. Sorting, donating and disposal vary a lot by job, so we would rather talk through what you need than promise something generic here.
